It Happens<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s set the stage: a manicured college
\nof pure measure.\u00a0 The lawns roll greenly.
\nCircumferences of mulch surround the trees.
\nReason that has devised an equation for entropy
\ncan answer every inquiry, mightily.<\/p>\n

The forest is a mess of holy randomness.
\nThe warp of vines wrap spruce and pine.
\nThe maples having poisoned other seedlings,
\nsoar through the roof of their own making.<\/p>\n

They are timeless and totemic (a phrase from my notebook),
\nexcept for an elder felled by sickness or wind;
\nwe tunnel under.<\/p>\n

Overhead soar the turkey vultures.<\/p>\n

Although a songbird screeches \u201cteacher
\nteacher\u201d as we descend, nature
\nhas the upper hand.\u00a0 Before he died,
\nan old man was epitaphin\u2019
\nin the graveyard we\u2019re passing.
\nOn his headstone he got it right: It Happens.<\/p>\n
