\nthis baroque jostling
\neveryone playing their roles –
\nsidewalk men singing arias, girls
\nswishing with trays of cafe;
\nchurches losing their swirls
\nin the dark alleyways.
\nWhen the metro jolts, a woman shouts
\nMamma Mia! Exactly!<\/p>\n

Enjoy the city of contradictions
\nas world war threatens
\nwhere energies peak
\nwith regularity for your last day.
\nGo wildly religious with
\nmarbled palaces or corner saints
\nthough killer food will dominate.
\nDeath by pizza (Sorbillo or Brandi)
\nricotta pastries, balls of mozzarella,
\nanchovies, all the best, finished by
\nGran Cafe Ciorfito or Bar Nilo’s espresso.<\/p>\n

If and when the end hits,
\nlook towards the flattened planes of
\nPompeii –
\nit\u2019s been done before.
\nOn your way out,
\ntake the elevator in the back
\nand bring your coin –
\nyou get nowhere without
