Now that I\u2019ve had the chance to read several times from \u201cDiaspora of Things,\u201d I\u2019m fascinated.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Self-conscious at the start, I was careful to put emphasis here, pause between stanzas where I penciled in \u201cpause.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Then I slid into a rhythm.\u00a0\u00a0The words took over, released from the page.\u00a0\u00a0I hoped those words, riding on the point of a vibrating arrow, attached to wings, knew how to do what they do.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Homer called it, \u201cwinged words,\u201d how poetry is in flight and comes alive, like airborne birds, like carrier pigeons, conveying meaning and power.\u00a0\u00a0In Hebrew, words and things are conveyed by the same word \u2013 devar.\u00a0\u00a0In \u201cDiaspora,\u201d things become released \u201cfrom the gaze of possession\u201d \u2013 so why not words?\u00a0\u00a0If they pierce the reader, go directly from one inner self to another, I ask for nothing more.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you to Kimberly at Symposium Books, and moderator Christina Bevilaqua.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m becoming a real fan of poetry read aloud.\u00a0\u00a0I love to hear words animated.\u00a0 Silence falls, and the voice, with its hypnotic or musical or walking tones, steps in.
