my long, deep relationship with France, being a Jew and a journalist.\u00a0 But I was balancing\u00a0the blast from close friends &#8211; leftists who railed about blowback, Jews who accused France of indelible anti-Semitism, Frenchies who were reeling from shock and spoke out of their pain.\u00a0 I managed to throw out the CIA plot from conspiracy theorists, but my head was spinning with bitter oppositions that seem unresolvable.\u00a0 They were alienating me from what was once called home &#8211; which is context.<\/p>\n<p>Wars are conducted on different battlefields.\u00a0 Russ Douthat, in <em>The<\/em> <em>New York Times<\/em>, said France was the battlefield where Europe&#8217;s contradictions would be played out.\u00a0 Dostoevsky said man&#8217;s soul was the battlefield over which God and the Devil fight.<\/p>\n<p>Art is a place to negotiate contradictions.\u00a0 Before they become art, they swirl in the artist.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to\u00a0put them on the page.<\/p>\n<p>#JeSuisClio<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
